Verhelst Recovery House
Recovery: A Choice That Transforms

The Verhelst Recovery House extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Bert Whitehead III for his
extraordinary generosity and unwavering commitment to our mission. Through his selfless
support, we have been able to undertake much-needed improvements to our facility, including
the expansion of our building and the addition of new showers and bathroom facilities. These
enhancements have significantly improved the quality of care and comfort we can offer our
clients.

In addition, Mr. Whitehead’s ongoing support has empowered our clients through a meaningful
work and training program. In partnership with Step-Up Bisbee/Naco, a local nonprofit
organization dedicated to building and renovating homes for those in need, this initiative
provides our clients with valuable opportunities to learn the building trade and develop skills
that may lead to future employment opportunities. Mr. Whitehead’s compassion and vision
continue to inspire positive change in the lives of those we serve.

It is also important to recognize the profound legacy that connects Mr. Whitehead and the
Verhelst Recovery House. His father, Mr. Bert Whitehead Sr., was a founding board member
who worked closely with Dr. Verhelst to establish and incorporate the Verhelst Recovery House
on May 15, 1969. This remarkable partnership laid the foundation for nearly 60 years of
transformative service, helping countless individuals on their journey to recovery and renewed
hope. On behalf of everyone at Verhelst Recovery House, we express our enduring gratitude to
those who came before us. Their vision and dedication have entrusted us with the profound
privilege of carrying forward their legacy of service and hope.
